Canadian-born David Aldmejd's latest crystalline solo exhibition is an exploration of layering, ambiguity and transparency that is presented through three separate spaces at Andrea Rosen. Exhibition Image, Michelangelo Pistoletto: The Minus Objects 1965-1966, Luhring Augustine, Bushwick
Luhring Augustine's unitary space in Bushwick provides the perfect context for a series of ostensibly unrelated works by Italian artist Michelangelo Pistoletto, who was one of the key players in the important Arte Povera movement. While many will be familiar with Pistoletto's mirror paintings, in which the viewer becomes, willing or unwilling, a direct participant in the work, this exhibition showcases the uniqueness and inventiveness of mostly sculptural work that demonstrates Pistoletto's broader range and spirit. The exhibition runs through May 11.

Exhibition Image, Ileana Sonnabend: Ambassador for the New, MoMA, New York
The late gallerist and collector Ileana Sonnabend's influence and eye are showcased at MoMA through an impressive mix of what were, especially at the time, groundbreaking works. Central to the exhibition curated by Ann Temkin and Claire Lehmann is Robert Rauschenberg’s Combine painting Canyon (1959), recently gifted to the museum by the Sonnabend family. But Canyon is far from the only standout at the show, and the celebrity and importance of each particular work end up putting the focus rightfully on Sonnabend herself.

Exhibition Image, Emil Lukas, Sperone Westwater, New York

Pittsburgh-born artist Emil Lukas brings a beautiful exhibition of paintings to Sperone Westwater. While Lukas' rigorous, almost mathematical "Thread" compositions present a controlled vision, his "Larvae" paintings provide a more organic, chance-driven counterpoint. The works are united, however, in their demanding a second look, inviting the viewer to think not just about beauty but also about the process of making. The show, which opened January 9th, runs though February 22nd.

Exhibition Image, Iran do Espirito Santo, Playground, Central Park, New York
Curated by Nicholas Baume, Brazilian artist Iran do Espirito Santo's Playground is a curious puzzle perched midway between an expression of building and one of decay. In the end it's purity of finish and its very public nature betray the fact that this is a very deliberate, very stable work. The work is a Public Art Fund exhibition and will be in place until February 16th.

Whitney Artist Council Members were afforded a sneak peak of Renzo Piano's new Whitney Museum, which sits in downtown Manhattan between the Hudson and the High Line. While there's clearly much work to be done before the opening in 2015, the spaces are taking shape and both the galleries and public areas promise to inject new energy into both the institution and the neighborhood (and brilliant, transparent views of city and river) .

Exhibition Image, Christopher Wool, Guggenheim Museum, New York
Curated by the Guggenheim’s Katherine Brinson, Chicago-born Christopher Wool’s photographs, silk-screens, digital prints and paintings are brilliant examples from an artist able to move effortlessly between the worlds of abstract expressionism, conceptualism, ready-made, and street art. Wool's work invites the viewer to contemplate the (often many-layered) process of making—the “how”—as the path to understanding the deeper meaning of the work. For those wanting to catch the show for the first time, or again before it closes, the last day is January 22.

Aldrich in this show juxtaposes works against one another--sometimes two paintings next to each other, sometimes a combination of painting and sculpture, implying or seeking a conversation. The final piece of the show will close December 21.

Richard Serra's Inside Out, part of the New Sculpture exhibition split between both Gagosian Chelsea locations, continues the artist's impressive body of work. Inside Out, a single curved corten steel work simultaneously exists as both object and space. While there may be nothing particularly surprising in this work for followers of Serra's career, it nevertheless does not fail to impress.
