A series of 11 large paintings from Lucien Smith are on view at Skarstedt's Upper East Side gallery. Here Smith takes inspiration from a work that had a deep influence on him, the ukiyo-e woodblock print by Japanese artist Hokusai "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," but through his use of abstraction and the infusion of camouflage produces work that combines nature and man in a tense dialogue. The show closes June 27th.
